Finally Done

Katie has been asking for a hat of her own,and since I have made several for her little sister it was time for a hat of her own.   I decided to use the Ribbons pattern in Itty Bitty hats and modify it to fit her head, age , and personality.  I love the colors and the way it has turned out!

As you can see, the reason it took me so long, was because the begining of August is filled with birthdays: Kennedy the 6th, and then Katie on the 10th!  She had a great time as you can see from the pictures.  Her cake turned out just the way she wanted it, and everyone seemed to have a fabulous time/a>
I am now going to get started on this dress for Kennedy
My Mom sent me the yarn as a present for Kennedy.  We decided to use a violet and white combination instead of the colors shown.
I just got the yarn today and the colors look sooo yummy! I know Kennedy will love it!

I keep meaning to post but.....

I keep meaning to post but with everyone home for the summer I have not had anytime to myself.  My husband and I are educators so we are both off in the summer, so I get a lot of family time; however that leaves little  computer time.
I have gotten back to knitting, it took longer than I thought after the hand surgery, but I did manage to get some knitting done.
Kennedy turned 1 on August 6, 2008 I was determined to knit her the Birthday Cake hat from Susan B Anderson's Itty Bitty Knits!  As you can see Kennedy loves it almost as much as her cake!
August is a busy month for us with 3 birthdays, Katie is the 10th, Kennedy the 6th, and my husband the 16th.  Believe me around here we are partied out.
On the 6th we celebrated Kennedy's 1 st Birthday with some of her favorite friends! She had a great time and sentimental Mom, I am put her in the dress her big sister Katie wore for her first birthday.  The dress was a first birthday gift from her Grammy Roberts.
Then on Saturaday, I invited about 12 of Katie's friends over to celebreate her 6th birthday, complete with the Hannah Montana cake!  The kids had a blast and so did her little sister Kennedy!
I am currently trying to work on the ribbons hat, again from itty bitty knits, for Katie.  I making it in a beautiful green and have altered the pattern to fit Katie's size and style, but I have not had time to take pictures of this work in progress.

What I did on my summer vacation

Ugh! I looked at my blog and realized I have not posted for all of July.  In all fairness, I had not been able to knit due to surgery...then went on vacation.
So now I am back, *groan* and have finally started knitting again.  I am working on a great cameo purse my Mom gave me ( yeah mom!) and I just started some socks in a beautiful blue.  As soon as I get around to taking pics I will post my works in progress.
So what did I do on my summer vacation....Relaxed...

Well as much as you can with a house full of kids... My girls plus Lydia and Elizabeth

This is the house in Kure Beach, NC.. we realized how much we missed living there during our vacation:(
These are of the Kure Beach fishing pier
Katie and Elizabeth play together on the beach.

This is Elizabeth and Kennedy on the beach cooperating...the later ones get bad quickly as nap time neared

This is the whole crew of kids from 16yrs to  11 months ( Back Left to  front right--Lydia holding William, Emily holding Kennedy, Randy, Nathan, Jacob, Elizabeth, Katie , and Rachel)   You have no idea how difficult this picture was to get!!!!

Kennedy on the beach,  I have a matching one of Katie at this age, on the same beach, too.

We also stopped by some friends house on the way home and this is the view from their deck, gorgeous isn't it!  These are the three boats he has in the water, you should see the collection he has on the front lawn.  Nikki put her foot down about not bringing anymore boats home, so now they just seem to come to him!!!!

And before we left, Ken helped Nikki get a rat snake out of the yard with the help of their great dog Streaker! What vacation is complete without snake handling!

Keepn' Cool in the Summer Topic Question 3

Well now that Summer has OFFICIALLY begun.. what do you do to beat the heat? A nice tall glass of lemonade? Frozen Coffee? A dip in the pool? What's your favorite way to keep cool this summer as things heat up?

I like to hang out in the shade with neighbor friends while the kids are in the little pool we placed in the shade!   I also LOVE the pool and swimming, but with a 5 yo and a baby, I do not get much of a chance just for me to swim.  Mostly it is just holding someone!
I also LOVE my Central air, but my husband and I fight over the temperature, I am cold at anything under 76 degrees, while he views that as not even having the house air conditioned!  I think it is better for the environment not have it set so low as well, but we'll see who wins the argument.  Mostly, I just turn it up when he is not looking!

New Post

I know my blog has been quiet for awhile.  Unfortunately it is not due to a vacation, I had my trigger finger surgery, otherwise known as tendon release.  The surgery went pretty well, very quick! However, I spent most of last week with a VERY swollen, bruised, and sore hand.
My hand is feeling much better now, however my ring and middle finger are still really stiff and sore and will not straighten out, so now I am off to physical therapy for 6 weeks!
I am planning to try to knit today for the first time in almost 2 weeks.  I am going through serious knitting withdraw.  I have been gazing longingly at patterns, reading others knitting blogs and stories with jealousy and fondling my yarn!
Oh and finally a picture for my mother in law who does not like a post without a picture of my kids!  Here you go....Kennedy tried to eat Katie's marker.  I like that she picked a coordinating color!  make sure you look at her tongue.

Keepn' Cool in the Summer Topic Question 2

Living in Atlanta, I know Summer has truly 'arrived' when it begins to get humid. Blech. When I was a kid, I knew Summer was starting the easy way - School was out!! Share with us how you know that summer has truly 'arrived', or something that signifies the start of Summer in your world.

My husband and I both work in education, he is a special education teacher and football coach, so summer is easy for us, the day after the last day of school!!!! In this years case, June 12, 2008!  I love summers with my two girls, when we can ease into the day, the nights are long and we have a lot of time together!

Schools Out!!!

Schools out for the summer and while this has always made me so happy, my daughter is not as thrilled.  She is going to miss her phenomenal teacher, Ms. Pope.  She is one of the best teachers I have ever met ( believe me 10 years o f working in schools I have met a lot) and we were blessed that she was Katie's first introduction to school.  This has made all the difference!  Ms. Pope was born to teach and I have never seen a person with such a way with kids, they love her and she loves them.

Here is Katie on her first day of kindergarten- age 5 years

Here is Katie today on her last day of kindergarten- age 5 years and 10 months

Principals List I am SOOOO Proud!  You go Katie!
All her babiness around her face is gone along with her front tooth!

Keepn' Cool in the Summer Topic Question 1

So for this week's topic, make a post on your own blog sharing YOUR favorite pattern(s) with us! Don't have a favorite site? That's fine! Show us a photo of one of the cloths you have made and really loved, even if it was just a made up pattern!
I like to experiment with dishcloths.  So far I have not knitted the same one twice.  My daughter is a big fan of this oneI am pretty proud of this one I just finished
Someday I would like to make the Garterlac cloth and the vortex dishcloth.

Hats Hats and More Hats

Okay, I will admit it, I can not stop making cute baby hats. At this point, as the mother of a 10 month old baby it is not such a bad thing, however, I do need to get some other projects finished! Namely, some socks I started in this lovely lilac bamboo yarn. I think part of the problem with the socks is my trigger finger, the yarn is very slippery and it gets very difficult and uncomfortable for my finger. For this reason, I have been switching projects, but I would really like to get these socks done! Maybe after my surgery on the 16th things will be easier.

I have finished two really cute hats recently. My cousin Becky is having a baby in November so I have already finished the Bunny Tails hat. Kennedy is modeling it and since it is made for a new born it is slightly small.

I have also finished my part of William's Birthday cake hat, in this picture it is not quite complete but my model is sleeping and the other is at school, so I will display the work in progress picture. My Mom is going to add the crocheted blue icing edging to the hat. It was very easy, knit in a day or so and I am pretty pleased with the way it turned out. I am too nervous to screw it up with trying out my crochet technique, so I am deferring to my Mother's experience so as not to ruin the hat for William's special day in June!

Finally, a picture of my Katie wearing her newly acquired snorkel gear! I threw in the picture not because it has anything to do with knitting, (more about not being able to knit:) but becuase she would not be happy if I only had pictures of her sister!
